Oh-oh-oh-i-i, Oh-oh-oh-i

DUTCH FIRE OPENING

The wood has all be brought,
The fire is burning brightly,
The smoke soars up,
Our circle is completed
Our campfire is open.

EACH CAMPFIRE LIGHTS ANEW

Each campfire lights anew
The flame of friendship true.
The joy we’ve had in knowing you
Will last the whole year through.

And as the embers die away
We wish that we might ever stay.
But since we cannot have our way
We’ll come again some other day.

FIRE’S BURNING

Fire’s burning, fire’s burning
Draw nearer, draw nearer
In the gloaming, in the gloaming
Come sing and be merry.

Hush! Let all be still...
Listen to the sounds of the night.

The hum of insects,
The whisper of friends.
The crackle of the fire
Which calls us to sing...
(begin opening song such as Fire’s Burning or similar)

I DON’T NEED A CAMPFIRE

I don’t need a blazing fire to sing a campfire song;
All I need are friends like you, to help me sing along.
The night wind strums her soft guitar;
Instead of flames, we’ll watch the stars;
No, I don’t need a campfire to sing a campfire song!

LIGHT THE WOOD

Light the wood, the campfire burns
We are gathered all around.
Now the flames are leaping high,
Lighting up the evening sky.

IN A CABIN IN A WOOD

In a cabin in a wood (trace a cabin outline with your index fingers)
A little old man by the window stood (trace a window outline)
Saw a rabbit hopping by (two fingers of one hand like rabbit ears, hopping)
Knocking at his door (knock with fist)
"Help me! Help me! Help me!" he said, (throw arms up for each "help me")
"Or the hunter will shoot me dead!" (make a finger gun, point, and shoot)
"Come little rabbit, come with me, (welcome gesture with hands)
Happy we will be." (hug yourself)

The first time through, sing the entire song with all the hand motions. The next time through, don't sing the last line, but still do the motions. Keep dropping lines until you're acting the entire song with no words and just hand motions. Finish up by singing the entire song one more time with all the hand motions.

LAPADA

Let’s all dance the Lapada, Lapada, Lapada.
Let’s all dance the Lapada, Lapadapada.
Dance: In a circle formation, everyone holds their neighbours' hands the first time through. Take 4 side-together steps to the left, then 4 to the right. Repeat for each verse with hands on the appropriate place on your neighbours' bodies, according to the question and answer with the Leader.
Leader: "Have we danced the Lapada?"
Group: "Yes!"
Leader: "Have we danced with your hands on your head?"
Group "No!"
Repeat the song, this time with your hands on your neighbours' heads. Then continue the questioning, using shoulder, waist, knees, ankles, and toes. The Leader asks the same series of questions, starting with the head each time and working through the list until she receives the answer "No".
LITTLE RABBIT FOO-FOO

Little rabbit Foo-Foo, hopping through the forest,
Scooping up the field mice, and bopping them on the head,
And down came the good fairy, and she said
“Little rabbit Foo-Foo, I don’t want to see you
Scooping up the field mice and bopping them on the head”

“I’ll give you three chances, And then I’ll turn you into a good” But the very next day (repeat verse)
“I’ll give you two more chances...”
“I’ll give you one more chance...”
“I gave you three chances, so now I’ll turn you into a good” - Zap! The moral of the story is “Hare today, goon tomorrow.”

Let us RE-Joice (arms up in joy)!

T.I.R.O

Everyone stands in a circle and puts their arms around the backs of their neighbours - important not to pull on shoulders as then you can loose stability. Then everyone moves their right foot over top of their right neighbour's left foot (so that the right foot is between your right neighbour's feet with the leg being over top of the left one).
TIR (lean to right) TIR (lean to left) TIR (lean to right) O (lean to left)

TIR TIR TIR O (same as above)
TIR TIR O (same as above)

WADDLE-EE-ACHA

Waddle-ee-acha, waddle-ee-acha,
Doodle-ee-doo, doodle-ee-doo,
Waddle-ee-acha, waddle-ee-acha,
Doodle-ee-doo, doodle-ee-doo!

It's a simple little song, there ain't much to it,
All you've got to do is doodle-ee-doo it,
I like the rest but the part I like best
It goes: doodle-ee-doodle-ee-doo! Woo!
Actions: For each pair of lines in the song, you fit the following actions:
  • Slap hands on thighs twice
  • Clap hands twice
  • With arms in held in front of chest, shake left hand over right hand twice, then right hand over left twice
  • Left hand holding your nose, right hand holding your left ear, then right hand holding your nose and left hand holding your right ear, repeat

WHO STOLE MY CHICKENS AND MY EGGS?

Who stole my chickens and my eggs?
Who stole my chickens and my eggs?
Who stole my chickens?
Who stole my eggs?
Who stole my chickens and my eggs?
Actions:
1st time: Cross your arms, look grumpy and at the end of every line, stomp your foot twice
2nd time: Find a partner. Each person makes a "beak" with their right hand and a "bowl" with their left. Feed your "beak" in your partner's "bowl", then bring your "beak" to your mouth. Then switch hands - make a "beak" with your left hand and a "bowl" with your right, and repeat the action. You do two complete sets of actions (i.e. make four "beaks", two with each hand) during the first line of the song.
3rd time: With a partner, repeat the following clapping game throughout the song:
Cross-clap with partner (your left hand faces up, right hand faces down, hands held parallel to ground);
Clap with partner (clap their left hand with your right while simultaneously clapping your right hand with their left, hands perpendicular to ground);
Clap your own hands;
Repeat.
You do about 3 1/2 sets of actions for each line. If you've followed the clapping properly, you can then close the end of the verse with two straight claps of your own hands.

With my hand on myself, vat is das here? (touch forehead)

YELLS, CHANTS AND REPEATING SONGS

ALL GIRL GUIDES

I don't know but I've been told,
All Girl Guides are good as gold.
I am one, and I say it's true,
Guiding's great for me and you.
Chorus:
Sound off: 1, 2,
Sound off: 3, 4.
Bring it on down: 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, - 3,4

Sparks wear clothes the colour of pink,
They are Guiding's first strong link.
They are cute and they are sweet
Sparkie girls are fun to meet.

Brownies have an orange tie
They're second level, me oh my.
They wear a uniform that's brown.
Their big smiles can erase a frown.

Girl Guide level is the next,
Blue is the colour that we expect.
They say that camping is big fun,
And they earn badges one by one.

Pathfinders care a lot,
Their service projects hit the spot.
Green ties are the emblem that they wear,
The Girl Guide promise they're proud to swear.

Senior Branches are red, navy, gold,
They are Girl Guides on the go.
With many and widening chances to soar,
Some Girl Guides go over seas and more.

Leaders wear no ties at all
They come all sizes, big and small.
They share their time and talents too.
They make Girl Guiding great for you.

BEAR SONG

The other day
I met a bear
A great big bear
Away out there! (repeat)

He looked at me
I looked at him
He sized up me
I sized up him! (repeat)

He said to me
"Why don't you run?
I see you ain't
Got any gun!" (repeat)

And so I ran
Away from there
But right behind
Me was that bear! (repeat)

Ahead of me
There was a tree
A great big tree
Oh, glory be! (repeat)

The nearest branch
Was ten feet up
I'd have to jump
And trust my luck! (repeat)

And so I jumped
Into the air
But I missed that branch
Away up there! (repeat)

Now don't you fret
Now don't you frown
'Cause I caught that branch
On the way back down! (repeat)

That is the end
There ain't no more
Unless I meet
That bear once more! (repeat)

And so I met
That bear once more
Now he's a rug
On my bedroom floor! (repeat)

CAMP WYOKA SONG

It is time for us to sing out about the campfire's glowing light,
All of us together, one purpose we all share,
To spread the friendship around the world, to each other we will say,
Join me in praying, for peace some day.

All around the world there's people with tears in their eyes,
It is now we must realise that we should take a stand,
For as we look amongst ourselves we have Canada to thank,
For all the peace and joy we share, in this great land.

I will always remember my days at summer camp,
I reflect upon the memories and friendships I have won,
Don't worry, Wyoka, I'll be back before too long,
Where love and friendship comforts me, all summer long.

It is time for us to sing out about the campfire's glowing light,
All of us together, one purpose we all share,
To spread the friendship around the world, to each other we will say,
Join me in praying, for peace someday.

CAN A WOMAN

Can a woman fly an airplane? Yes she can, yes she can!
Can a woman build a building? Yes she can, yes she can!
Can a woman fight a fire?
Can a woman change a tire?
Can a woman lead a choir?
Yes she can, yes she can!

Can a woman be a lawyer? Yes she can, yes she can!
Can a woman fix an engine? Yes she can, yes she can!
Can a woman be a drummer?
Can a woman be a plumber?
Can she play ball in the summer?
Yes she can, yes she can!

Can a woman be a doctor? Yes she can, yes she can!
Can a woman drive a tractor? Yes she can. yes she can!
Can a woman lead a nation?
Can she run a TV station?
Can she head a corporation?
Yes she can, yes she can!

Just you wait until we're older, then you'll see
We'll be women in tomorrow's history!
As we grow up through the years
We'll sing out loud and clear
Can we start the process here?
Yes we can, yes we can!!

We love life and so can you
Fun and learning, service too
Dn’t have time to feel real blue

CHORUS:
Sound off 1-2
Sound off 3-4
Bring it on down 1-2-3-4, 1,2,3-4!

Now my friends and now my foes
Don’t have time for all your woes
Marching dow this old street
Marching down with dancing feet

Girl Guides teach and Girl Guides learn
Making campfires really burn
Tying knots and lashing trees
Studying those honeybees

Nature’s fine but science too
Give Girl Guides new things to do
Chemistry, and computers, yes
Learning’s what we love best

Listen girls, now listen well
Guiding’s great, now come and yell
Guiding’s great it takes some time
We even learn to do some mime

Guiding’s more than cookies now
Planes and trains and cars, oh wow

Makes Guides fun for me and you

Join with us and have some fun
Learning stuff till day is done
Girls you too can be a Guide
Girl Guides can be found world wide.

LITTLEST WORM
The littlest worm
I ever saw
Was stuck inside
My soda straw

He said to me
Don’t take a sip
For if you do
I’ll surely flip

I took a sip
And he went down
All through my pipes
He surely drowned

He was my pal
He was my friend
But now he’s gone
And that’s the end

The moral of
This story is
Don’t take a sip
Of soda fizz

Now don’t you fret
Now don’t you fear
That little worm,
Had scuba gear!

All at OUR CHALET

Chorus: (change last line to "To visit PAX LODGE")

From PAX LODGE we see the sights
Of London Town and city lights
We meet the English on rainy nights
While we're cosy at PAX LODGE

Chorus: ... To visit OUR CABANA

OUR CABANA's in Mexico
And off to a bull fight we all go
Arts and crafts to children we show
When staying at OUR CABANA

Chorus: ... And now we go to SANGAM

India's SANGAM is far away
But we'll see the life of Old Bombay
We'll dance and sing all through the day
When we go to SANGAM

These are the centres for Girl Scouts or Guides
We think of them with joy and pride
For we have travelled far and wide
All around the world.

I’m an eighth old man
I’m an Henry, Henry the Eighth I am!

Second Verse, same as the first
A little bit louder and a little bit worse!

By showing we care, it’s love we send
Though the world is so wide

It’s easy to be a friend, a friend

LION HUNT

Goin' on a lion hunt!
I'm not scared!
Look at all the beautiful flowers.
Oh-oh!
Deep, wide, river ahead!
Can't go over it!
Can't go under it!
Can't go around it!
Guess we gotta swim it!

Goin' on a lion hunt!
I'm not scared!
Look at all the beautiful flowers.
Oh-oh!
Tall, tall trees ahead!
Can't go over them!
Can't go under them!
Can't go around them!
Guess we gotta climb them!

Goin' on a lion hunt!
I'm not scared!
Look at all the beautiful flowers.
Oh-oh!
Deep, dark cave ahead!
Can't go over it!
Can't go under it!
Can't go around it!
Gotta go through it!

(next verse is done very, very quietly, as if you were scared of the cave)

Goin' on a lion hunt...
I'm not scared...
Look at all the beautiful flowers...
Oh-oh...
Big, fuzzy nose ahead...
Two green eyes ahead...
Long, long whiskers ahead...
Long, sharp teeth ahead...
It's a LION!
RUN!!
(slapping on knees goes very fast, as if you were running... go through all the obstacles in reverse order and as fast as you can, with more slapping of hands on knees inbetween each obstacle.)
Up the trees! Down the trees! Run!!!
Swim the river! Run!!
Through the mud! Run!!
Through the grass! Run!!
HOME!

90 YEARS OF GUIDING
(tune:  Ballad of the Green Beret)

In 1910 Girl Guides began
The vision of a single man
It was for boys first, that is true,
But girls soon showed what they could do!

CHORUS:
Keep the Promise and the Law
No-one ever can do much more
For 90 years Girl Guides have dared
To do their best to Be Prepared

Guides are not always dressed in blue
They now wear clothes of many a hue
Although with time, they change the tests
All they ask is to do your best

The time has passed, the years have flown
And our movement has now grown
If you search throughout the world
You will see our flag unfurled!

MOOSE SONG

There was a great big moose
Who liked to drink a lot of juice
There was a great big moose
Who liked to drink a lot of juice

Way-oh, way-oh
Way-oh way-oh way-oh way-oh
Way-oh, way-oh!
Way-oh way-oh way-oh way-oh

The moose's name was Fred
He liked to drink his juice in bed
The moose's name was Fred
He liked to drink his juice in bed

He drank his juce with care
But he spilt it in his hair
He drank his juice with care
But he spilt it in his hair

Now there's a sticky moose
Full of juice...
On the loose...

OTHER FAVOURITE SONGS

AIKEN DRUM

There was a man lived in the  moon,
Lived in the moon, lived in the moon.
There was a man lived in the moon,
And his name was Aiken Drum

CHORUS:
And he played upon a ladle, a ladle, a ladle
And he played upon a ladle,
And his name was Aiken Drum

And his had was made of pudding
And his coat was made of turkey
And his belt was made of licorice
And his pants were made of fish sticks
And his buttons were made of walnuts
And his hair was made of spaghetti
And his eyes were made of jelly beans
And his mouth was made of marshmallow

AMAZING GRACE

Amazing grace! how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind but now I see.

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
'Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.

When we've been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We've no less days to sing God's praise,
Than when we first begun.

Amazing grace has set me free,
To touch, to taste, to feel;
The wonders of accepting love,
Have made me whole and real.

ANTS GO MARCHING

The ants go marching one-by-one Hurrah! Hurrah!
The ants go marching one-by-one Hurrah! Hurrah!
The ants go marching one-by-one
The little one stopped to suck his thumb
And they all went marching
Down, around the town
Boom boom boom
The ants go marching two-by-two...

Two-by-two: tie his shoe
Three-by-three: climb a tree

BABY DUCK

Oh isn’t it a bit of luck
That I was born a baby duck
With rubber socks and rubber shoes
I can waddle where I choose
Quack, quack, quack, quack, quack,
Quack, quack, quack, quack, quack.

BARGES

Out of my window, looking in the night
I can see the barges flickering light
Silently flows the river to the sea
And the barges too go silently
Chorus:
Barges, I would like to go with you
I would like to sail the ocean blue
Barges, have you treasures in your hold
Do you fight with pirates brave and bold?

Out of my window, looking in the night
I can see the barges flickering light
Starboard shines green and port is glowing red
I can see them flickering far ahead

BEING A GUIDE WITH YOU

We’ll have a good time, singing a song,
Learning new things as we travel along.
Well it’s such a lot of fun being a Guide with you.

Make some good friends, try something new,
I’m doing new things I never thought I could do
And it’s such a lot of fun being a Guide with you

Being a Guide mean being a friend
Working together until the day’s end
Laughing along, singing a song, sharing a dream or two.

The future is ours, it’s just round the bend
I know I’m prepared and I’ve got a friend
And it’s such a lot of fun being a Guide with you.

Being a Guide means lending a hand
And being a Guide means taking a stand.
Spreading goodwill all over the land.
Making our dreams come true.

I’m singing it loud, I’m singing it clear,
‘Cause I’ve got a message I want you to hear
And it’s such a lot of fun being a Guide with you
Oh yeah, being a Guide:
Well it’s ever so much fun being a Guide with you.

BICYCLE BUILT FOR TWO

Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer true
I'm half crazy over the love of you
It won't be a stylish marriage
I can't afford a carriage
But you look sweet, upon the seat
Of a bicycle built for two

Harry, Harry here is your answer true:
You're half crazy if you think I would marry you!
If you can't afford a carriage,
You can't afford a marriage,
And I'll be damned if I'll be crammed
On a bicycle built for two!

BLOWING IN THE WIND

How many roads must a man walk down
Before they call him a man
How many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand
How many times must the cannon balls fly
Before they're forever banned
Chorus:
The answer my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind
How many years can a mountain exist
Before they're washed to the sea
How many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free
How many times can a man turn his head
And pretend that he just doesn't see

How many times must a man look up
Before he reaches the sky
How many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry
How many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died

BOY AND A GIRL IN A LITTLE CANOE

Just a boy and a girl in a little canoe
When the moon is shining all around
As they dipped their paddles they didn’t even make a sound
Well they talked and they talked till the moon went in
And he said you better kiss me or get out and swim
So whatcha gonna do in a little canoe
When the moon is shinin’ all a, The moon is shinin’ all a,
The moon is shinin’ all around
Get out and swim!
What the heck stay and neck for an hour or two
When the moon is shinin’ all a, the moon is shinin’ all a,
The moon is shining all around!

BROWNIE SMILE

There’s something in my pocket
That belongs across my face
I keep it very close to me
In a most convenient place
I bet you’ll never guess it
If you guess a long, long while
So I’ll take it out and put it on
It’s a great big Brownie smile!

BOOM, BOOM AIN’T IT GREAT TO BE CRAZY

CHORUS:
Boom, boom ain’t it great to be crazy
Boom, boom ain’t it great to be crazy
Giddy and foolish all day long
Boom, boom ain’t it great to be crazy

Way down south where bananas grow
A flea stepped on an elephant’s toe
The elephant cried with tears in his eyes
“Why don’t you pick on someone your own size”?

A horse and a flea and three blind mice
Sat on the curbstone shooting dice
The horse, he slipped and fell on the flea
Woops! said the flea, there’s a horse on me!

I bough a suit of combination underwear
Guaranteed not to rip or tear
I wore them six months and to my consternation
I couldn’t et the darned thing off, I’d lost the combination!

I love myself.  I think I’m grand
When I go to the movies, I hold my hand
I put my arm around my waist
And when I get fresh, I slap my face.

I call myself on the telephone
Just to hear my musical tone
I ask myself for a heavy date
And pick myself up and half past eight

CROCODILE SONG

Oh, she sailed away
On a fine and sunny day
On the back of a crocodile.
You see said she,
He's as tame as tame can be,
I'll ride him down the Nile.

The crock winked his eye
As the lady waved goodbye,
Wearing a great big smile.
But at the end of the ride
The lady was inside
And the smile was on the crocodile!

CAMP GRANADA

Hello Mudda, hello Fadda,
Here I am at Camp Granada.
Camp is very entertaining,
And they say we'll have some fun if it stops raining.

I went hiking with Joe Spivy;
He developed poison ivy.
You remember Leonard Skinner;
He got ptomaine poisoning last night after dinner.

All the counsellors hate the waiters,
And the lake has alligators,
And the head coach wants no sissies,
So he reads to us from something called "Ulysses".

Now I don't want this should scare ya,
But my bunk mate has malaria.
You remember Jeffrey Hardy,
They're about to organize a searching party.

Take me home, oh Mudda, Fadda,
Take me home, I hate Granada!
Don't leave me in the forest where
I might get eaten by a bear.

Take me home, I promise I will not make noise,
Or mess the house with other boys.
Oh, please don't make me stay,
I've been here one whole day.

Dearest Father, darling Mother,
How's my precious little brother?
Let me come home if you miss me,
I would even let Aunt Bertha hug and kiss me.

Wait a minute, it stopped hailing,
Guys are swimming, gals are sailing.
Playing baseball, gee that's betta,
Mudda, Fadda, kindly disregard this letter!

CLEMENTINE

In a cavern, in a canyon, excavating for a mine
Dwelt a miner, forty-niner and his daughter, Clementine
Chorus:
Oh my darling, oh my darling, oh my darling, Clementine
You are lost and gone forever, dreadful sorry, Clementine

Light she was and like a fairy, and her shoes were number nine
Herring boxes without topses, sandals were for Clementine

Drove the ducklings to the water, every morning just at nine
Hit her foot against a splinter, fell into the foaming brine

Ruby lips above the water, blowing bubbles soft and fine
Alas for me I was no swimmer, so I lost my Clementine

How I missed her, how I missed her, how I missed my Clementine
So I kissed her little sister, and forgot my Clementine

DONKEY RIDING

CHORUS
Hey ho, away we go
Donkey riding, donkey riding
Hey ho, away we go
Riding on a donkey
Were you ever in Quebec?
Stowing timber on the deck
Where there's a king with a golden crown
Riding on a donkey

Were you ever off the horn?
Where it's always fine and warm
Seen the lion and the unicorn
Riding on a donkey

Were you ever in Cardiff Bay?
Where the folks all shout, "Hurray!"
Here comes John with his three months pay
Riding on a donkey

DOWN BY THE BAY
Down by the bay
Where the watermelons grow
Back to my home
I dare not go
For if I do
My mother will say...
Have you ever seen a... (insert silly line here)

EENER MEENER (BEETLES & BEDBUGS)

I woke up Sunday morning, and looked up on the wall,
The beetles and the bedbugs, were playing a game of ball

The score was 6 to nothing, the beetles were ahead,
The bedbugs hit a homerun and knocked me out of bed

CHORUS:
Singing - Eeny, meeny, miney, miney mo
Catch a tigger-tigger by his toe
If he hollers, hollers, let him go
Singing - Eeny, meeny, miney, miney mo

I went downstairs to breakfast, I ordered ham and eggs
I at so many eggs, the ham ran down my legs

I went outside to play, I looked up in the sky
I saw a little bluebird, and it popped right in my eye

CHORUS

My mother is a butcher, my dad’s a side of beef
And I’m a little hot dog, that runs around the street

My father is a crook, my mother is a spy
And I’m the little big-mouth, that told the FBI

CHORUS

Small and white, clean and bright
You look happy to meet me
Blossom of snow may you bloom and grow
Bloom and grow forever
Edelweiss, Edelweiss, bless my homeland forever

ACTIONS:

Sitting cross-legged in a circle, each person places their left hand face up between their left knee and their neighbour's right knee about a foot off the ground. Everyone places their right hands, palm down, on their right neighbour's upturned left hand. To the music (so these actions fit half of one line of the song) with your right hand, first you hit your neighbour's left hand, then your right knee, your left knee, the bottom of your left hand and then the top of your left hand twice
FIVE GREEN AND SPECKLED FROGS

Five green and speckled frogs
Sat on a speckled log
Eating the most delicious bugs
Yum-yum!
One jumped into the pool
Where it was nice and cool
Now there are four green speckled frogs.
Four green and speckled frogs...

FOUR LEAF CLOVER
I'm looking over a four leaf clover
That I overlooked before
One leaf is sunshine
The second is rain
Third is the roses that grow in the lane
No need explaining, the one remaining
Is somebody I adore
I'm looking over a four leaf clover
That I overlooked before

FOUR JOLLY BLACKSMITHS

There were four jolly blacksmiths so merry and free
Merry and free, merry and free.
They would go here they would go there
Like birds on a tree, on a tree, oh hey:
Oh hey, oh hey, like birds on a tree,
Like birds on a tree, like birds on a tree.
Oh hey, oh hey like birds on a tree,
like birds on a tree, oh hey.

FOUND A PEANUT

Found a peanut, found a peanut,
Found a peanut last night.
Last night, I found a peanut.
Found a peanut last night.

Broke it open, broke it open,
Broke it open last night.
Last night, I broke it open.
Broke it open last night.

GOING OVER THE SEA

When I was one, I swallowed a bun, going over the sea.
I jumped aboard a sailor ship and the sailor said to me.
Going over, going under, stand at attention like a soldier
With a one, two three.

When I was two, I tied my shoe...
When I was three, I climbed a tree...
When I was four, I shut the door...
When I was five, I danced the jive...
When I was six, I picked up sticks...
When I was seven, I counted to eleven...
When I was eight, I learned to skate...
When I was nine, I towed the line...
When I was ten, I started again...

GUIDE LAW SONG (NEW)

I challenge myself with the Guiding Law
To be honest and true
To be wise in the use of resources I have
To respect myself and others too
To know and to use my gifts and my skills
To protect our common world
Live with courage and strength
And to share in the joys
Of the Guiding sisterhood!

GUIDE LAW SONG (OLD)

A Guide’s honour is to be trusted, loyal is she
Helpful to others, a friend to all and a sister to each other
A Guide is courteous, loves animals, orders obeyed,
Smiles, sings, is thrifty, pure in thought, word and deed.

HOLE IN THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA
There's a hole in the bottom of the sea,
There's a hole in the bottom of the sea,
There's a hole, there's a hole,
There's a hole in the bottom of the sea.

There's a log in the hole in the bottom of the sea,
There's a log in the hole in the bottom of the sea,
There's a hole, there's a hole,
There's a hole in the bottom of the sea.

There's a bump on the log in the hole ... etc.
There's a frog on the bump on the log ... etc.
There's a fly on the frog on the bump ... etc.
There's a wing on the fly on the frog ... etc.

last verse:
There's a flea on the wing on the fly on the frog on the bump on the log in the hole in the bottom of the sea...
There's a hole, there's a hole,
There's a hole in the bottom of the sea.

GUIDE MARCHING SONG

Chorus:
They are Guides, all Guides
And in unexpected places
You'll meet their friendly faces
And a ready hand besides
And there's not much danger
Of finding you're a stranger
For Commissioner or Ranger
They are Guides, all Guides

Who are these? Swinging along the road,
With a a pack on the back, a song in the heart, to ease the load?
It is eighty years or more since they crowded through the door,
And they're coming along as gay and strong as ever they came before

Who are these? Living beneath the sky
While the simmering sun, the pattering rain, the clouds pass by
They will dine beneath the boughs and their leader always vows
That they're never afraid of wasps and hardly ever afraid of cows

Who are these? Sitting around the fire
They'll be happy to have your company if that is your desire
And the evening will be gay at the sunset of the day
With a song to sing and a tale to tell and many a tune to play

Who are these leaving the beaten track,
They are climbing high to the open sky and they won't turn back
You may join them where you will for the gate is open still
And the Guides of today can find their way to the path across the hill

They are Guides all Guides
At this moment you will find them
With one hundred years behind them
And a steady heart besides
For in need or danger
They’re friends with every stranger
And as Brownie, Guide and Ranger
They are Guides - all Guides!

HE’S GOT THE WHOLE WORLD

He's got the little bitty baby...
He's got everybody here...

Late last night when we were all in bed,
Old Lady Leary left a lantern in the shed.
Well, the cow kicked it over, and this is what they said:
"There'll be a hot time in the old town tonight!"
FIRE, FIRE, FIRE!

INCH WORM

Inch worm, inch worm
Measuring the marigolds
Could it be, stop and see
How beautiful they are

CHORUS:
Two and two are four
Four and four are eight
Eight and eight are sixteen
Sixteen and sixteen are thrity-two

Inch worm, inch worm
Measuring the marigolds
You and your aritmetic
You’ll probably go far
CHORUS

Inch worm, inch worm
Measuring the marigolds
Seem to me you’d stop and see
How beautiful they are

I LIKE TO EAT (APPLES & BANANAS)

I like to eat, I like to eat
I like to eat, eat, eat  apples and bananas
I like to eat, I like to eat
I like to eat, eat, eat  apples and bananas
Repeat changing all the vowels to a,e,i,o,u (ex: A lake ta ate, A lake ta ate...)

I’D LIKE TO TEACH THE WORLD TO SING

I'd like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony.
I'd like to hold it in my arms and keep it company.
I'd like to build the world a home and furnish it with love,
Grow apple trees and honey bees and snow white turtle doves.

I'd like to see the world for once all standing hand in hand,
And hear them echo through the hills for peace throughout the land.
That's the song that I hear, let the world sing today.
A song of peace that echoes on and never goes away.

IF ALL OF THE RAINDROPS

If all of the raindrops were lemon drops and gum drops,
Oh, what a world this would be!
I'd stand outside with my mouth open wide, goin'
Ah, ah ah ah, ah ah ah, ah ah ah,
If all of the raindrops were lemon drops and gum drops,
Oh, what a world this would be!

If all of the rainbows were Chicken McNuggets and BBQ sauce,
Oh, what a world this would be!
I'd stand outside with my mouth open wide, goin'
Ah, ah ah ah, ah ah ah, ah ah ah,
If all of the rainbows were Chicken McNuggets and BBQ sauce,
Oh, what a world this would be!

If all the mosquitoes were nacho Dorritos,
Oh, what a world this would be!
I'd stand outside with my mouth open wide, goin'
Ah, ah ah ah, ah ah ah, ah ah ah,
If all the mosquitoes were nacho Dorritos,
Oh, what a world this would be!

If all of the blackflies were gorgeous guys and cute guys,
Oh, what a world this would be!
I'd stand outside with my arms open wide, goin'
Kiss, kiss kiss kiss, kiss kiss kiss, kiss kiss kiss,
If all of the blackflies were gorgeous guys and cute guys,
Oh, what a world this would be!

If all of the moonbeams, were popsicles and ice cream
Oh, what a world this would be!
I'd stand outside with my mouth open wide, goin'
Ah, ah ah ah, ah ah ah, ah ah ah,
If all of the moonbeams, were popsicles and ice cream
Oh, what a world this would be!

If all of the snowflakes were lemon tarts and cupcakes
Oh, what a world this would be!
I'd stand outside with my mouth open wide, goin'
Ah, ah ah ah, ah ah ah, ah ah ah,
If all of the snowflakes were lemon tarts and cupcakes
Oh, what a world this would be!

If all of the pinecones were chocolate covered ice cream cones
Oh, what a world this would be!
I'd stand outside with my mouth open wide, goin'
Ah, ah ah ah, ah ah ah, ah ah ah,
If all of the pinecones were chocolate covered ice cream cones
Oh, what a world this would be!

I’SE THE B’Y

I'se the b'y that builds the boat
And I'se the b'y that sails her!
I'se the b'y that catches the fish
And takes ‘em home to Lizer.
CHORUS:
Hip yer partner, Sally Tibbo!
Hip yer partner, Sally Brown!
Fogo, Twillingate, Moreton’s Harbour,
All around the circle.

I don't want your maggoty fish,
That's no good for winter,
I could buy as good as that
Down in Bonavista.

I took Lizer to a dance,
And faith but she could travel
And every step that she did take
Was up to her knees in gravel.

IT’S A SMALL WORLD

It's a world of laughter, a world of tears
It's a world of hopes and a world of fears
There's so much that we share
That it's time we're aware
It's a small world after all

Chorus:
It's a small world after all
It's a small world after all
It's a small world after all
It's a small, small world

There is just one moon and one golden sun
And a smile means friendship to everyone
Though the mountains divide
And the oceans are wide
It's a small world after all

I WISH I WERE A LITTLE BAR OF SOAP

Oh I wish I were a little bar of soap
Oh I wish I were a little bar of soap
Oh I'd slippy and I'd slidey over everybody's hidy
Oh I wish I were a little bar of soap

Oh I wish I were a little mosquito
Oh I wish I were a little mosquito
Oh I'd bitty and I'd bitey under everybody's nighty
Oh I wish I were a little mosquito

JACK WAS EVERY INCH A SAILOR

Now, 'twas twenty-five or thirty years since Jack first saw the light.
He came into this world of woe one dark and stormy night.
He was born on board his father's ship as she was lying to,
'Bout twenty-five or thirty miles south-east of Bacaloo.
Chorus:
Jack was ev'ry inch a sailor,
Five and twenty years a whaler.
Jack was ev'ry inch a sailor;
He was born upon the bright blue sea.

When Jack grew up to be a man, he went to Labrador.
He fished in Indian harbour where his father fished before.
On his returning in the fog, he met a heavy gale,
And Jack was swept into the sea and swallowed by a whale.

The whale went straight for Baffin's Bay 'bout ninety knots an hour,
And ev'ry time he'd blow a spray, he'd send it in a shower.
"Oh, now," says Jack unto himself, "I must see what he's about."
He caught the whale all by the tail and turned him inside out.

Merry, merry king of the bush is he
Laugh, Kookaburra! Laugh, Kookaburra!
Gay your life must be

Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree
Eating all the gum drops he can see
Stop, Kookaburra! Stop, Kookaburra!
Leave some there for me

Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree
Counting all the monkeys he can see
Stop, Kookaburra! Stop, Kookaburra!
That's not a monkey, that's me!

LAND OF THE SILVER BIRCH

Land of the silver birch, home of the beaver
Where still the mighty moose, wanders at will
Chorus:
Blue lake and rocky shore, I will return once more
Boom did-y-ah-dah, Boom did-y-ah-dah
Boom did-y-ah-dah, boom

My heart is sick for thee, here in the lowlands
I will return to thee, hills of the north

Swift as a silver fish, canoe of birch bark
By mighty waterways, carry me forth

High on a rocky ledge, I'll build my wigwam
Close to the water's edge, silent and still

LINGER

Hmmm, I want to linger
Hmmm, a little longer
Hmmm, a little longer here with you

Hmmm, it's such a perfect night
Hmmm, it doesn't seem quite right
Hmmm, that this should be my last with you

Hmmm, and come September
Hmmm, I will remember
Hmmm, our camping days and friendships true

Hmmm, and as the years go by
Hmmm, I'll think of you and sigh
Hmmm, this is good-night and not good-bye

LITTLE SKUNK SONG

Oh I stunck my head in a little skunk hole,
And the little skunk said, “Well bless my soul.”
“Take it out, take it out, take it out, REmove it!”

Well I didn’t take it out, so the little skunk said,
“If you don’t take it out, you’ll wish you did!”
“Take it out, take it out, take it out!” PEE-U-O-O!! I REMOVED IT!

MICHAEL FINNEGAN

There was a man named Michael Finnegan.
He grew whiskers on his chin-egan.
Wind came out and blew them in again.
Poor old Michael Finnegan, begin again.

There was a man named Michael Finnegan.
He went fishing with a pin-egan,
Caught a fish and dropped it in-egan.
Poor old Michael Finnegan, begin again.

There was a man named Michael Finnegan.
Climbed a tree and barked his shin-egan,
Took off several yards of skin-egan.
Poor old Michael Finnegan, begin again.

There was a man named Michael Finnegan.
He kicked up an awful din-egan
Because they said he could not sing-egan.
Poor old Michael Finnegan, begin again.

MICHAEL ROW THE BOAT ASHORE

Michael row the boat ashore, Alleluiah
Michael row the boat ashore, Alleluiah

Sister help to trim the sail, alleluia (repeat)
Jordan's river is chilly and cold, alleluia (repeat)
Kills the body, but not the soul, alleluia (repeat)
Jordan's river is deep and wide, alleluia (repeat)
Meet my mother on the other side, alleluia (repeat)

MORNING HAS BROKEN

Morning has broken, like the first morning,
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird.
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning,
Praise for them springing fresh from the word.

Sweet the rain's new fall, sunlit from heaven,
Like the first dew fall on the first grass.
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden,
Sprung in completeness where His feet pass.

Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning,
Born of the one light Eden saw play.
Praise with elation, praise every morning,
God's re-creation of the new day.

Cool the gray clouds roll, peaking the mountains,
Gull in her free flight, swooping the skies.
Praise for the mystery, misting the morning,
Behind the shadow, waiting to shine.

I am the sunrise, warming the heavens,
Spilling my warm glow over the earth.
Praise for the brightness of this new morning,
Filling my spirit with Your great love.

Mine is a turning, mine is a new life,
Mine is a journey closer to You.
Praise for the sweet glimpse, caught in a moment,
Joy breathing deeply, dancing in flight.

MY BODY HAS CALAMINE LOTION

My body has calamine lotion
My body’s as sore as can be
The flowers I picked for the leaders
Turned out to be poison ivee.
Don’t touch, don’t touch
You’ll get a rash from ivee, ivy
It will itch bad, so, so, bad
And it looks worse than acne

MY PADDLE

My paddle's keen and bright
Flashing with silver
Follow the wild goose flight
Dip, dip and swing
Dip, dip and swing her back
Flashing with silver
Swift as the wild goose flies
Dip, dip and swing

NEWFOUNDLAND HYMN

Open your hymn books
And turn to page 28
And if you can't find page 28
Turn to 14 twice!

If I had the wings of a BUTTERFLY
Up to the mountains I'd fly (I'd fly)
There to remain as a BUTTERFLY
Until the day that I die (I die)

Chorus:
Oooh lah lah, oooh lah lah, oooh lah
Oooh lah lah, oooh lah lah lah.
(Repeat): Oooh lah lah, oooh lah lah, oooh lah
Oooh lah lah, oooh lah lah lah.
Repeat with similar verses for sparrow, buzzard, and turtle dove.
Amen.
Close your hymn books.
Good night.
And PRAISE THE LORD!

NINETY-NINE BOTTLES OF BEER ON THE WALL

Ninety-nine bottles of beer on the wall,
Ninety-nine bottles of beer,
If one of those bottles should happen to fall,
Ninety-eight bottles of beer on the wall!

Ninety-eight bottles of beer on the wall,
Ninety-eight bottles of beer,
If one of those bottles should happen to fall,
Ninety-seven bottles of beer on the wall!
Continue counting backwards all the way to one bottle of beer:
One bottle of beer on the wall,
One lonely bottle of beer,
If that lonely bottle should happen to fall,
No more bottles of beer on the wall!

NOBODY LOVES ME

Nobody likes me, everybody hates me,
I think I'll go eat worms!
Big fat juicy ones,
Eensie weensy squeensy ones,
See how they wiggle and squirm!

Down goes the first one, down goes the second one,
Oh how they wiggle and squirm!
Up comes the first one, up comes the second one,
Oh how they wiggle and squirm!

I bite off the heads, and suck out the juice,
And throw the skins away!
Nobody knows how fat I grow,
On worms three times a day!

Nobody likes me, everybody hates me,
I think I'll go eat worms!
Big fat juicy ones,
Eensie weensy squeensy ones,
See how they wiggle and squirm!

O BE JOYFUL

1.  O be joyful; O be jubilant
Put your sorrows far away
Come rejoice and sing together
This happy day

2. O  Be   Joy   Full
O   Be  Happy on this day

3.  O be joy-ful, O be joy-ful
Oh be joyful on the happy day

OH SUZANNAH

I came from Alabama
With my banjo on my knee
I'm going to Louisiana
My true love for to see
It rained all night the day I left
The weather it was dry
The sun so hot I froze to death
Suzannah don't you cry
Oh Suzannah, oh don't you cry for me
I've come from Alabama
With a banjo on my knee

ON TOP OF SPAGHETTI

On top of spaghetti all covered with cheese
I lost my poor meatball when somebody sneezed

It rolled off the table and onto the floor
And than my poor meatball rolled out of the door

It rolled into the garden and under a bush
And than my poor meatball was nothing but mush

The mush was as tasty as tasty could be
Then early next summer it grew into a tree

The tree was all coveted with beautiful moss
It grew lovely meatballs with tomato sauce

So next time you eat s'getti all covered with cheese
Hang onto your meatball and don't ever sneeze!

ON MY HONOUR

On my honour I will try
There's a duty to be done, and I say "aye",
There's a reason here, for a reason above
My honour is to try, and my duty is to love

People don't need to know my name
If I hurt someone, then I'm to blame
If I help someone, then I've helped me
And that's the way that it should be

I've tucked away a song or two
If you're feeling low, there's one for you
If you need a friend, then I will come
There's plenty more where I come from

Come with me where a fire burns bright
You can see much better by its own light
You can find more meaning in a campfire's glow
Than you'll ever find in a year or so

Friendship is the strangest thing
If you keep it to yourself no reward will it bring
But you gave it away, and you gave it to me
And from now on great friends we'll be

We've got a promise to always keep
We will sing "Day is Done" before we sleep
We are Girl Guides together, and when we're gone
We'll still be a-trying and a-singing this song...
(repeat first verse)

ONE MAN SHALL MOW MY MEADOW

One man shall mow my meadow
Tow men shall gather it together
Two men and one more
Shall shear my lambs and ewes and rams
And gather my gold together

Three men shall mow my meadow
Four men shall gather it together
Four men, three men, two men and one more
Shall shear my lambs and ewes and rams
And gather my gold together

Five men shall mow my meadow
Six men shall gather it together
Six men, five men, four men, three men, two men and one more
Shall shear my lambs and ewes and rams
And gather my gold together

Seven men shall mow my meadow
Eight men shall gather it together
Eight men, seven men, six men, five men, four men, three men, two men and one more
Shall shear my lambs and ewes and rams
And gather my gold together.

OUR CABAÑA SONG

'Neath the grand Sierra Madre
On a plain in Mexico,
Lies our beautiful Cabaña,
Where Girl Scouts and Guides go.
Oh, come then to see the mountains,
The cactus and sunny skies;
Hear the cricket in the evening
And see the white moon arise.

When you see the warm red roofs
You think of hearts that glow with cheer
And the walls of sturdy stone work
Stand for friendship so dear.
Each day there is filled with laughter,
Each evening is filled with song,
And our stay in Our Cabaña
Gives us memories life-long.

When we go to Our Cabaña
We will find ourselves at home;
There's a greeting smile so friendly
And a handshake so warm.
So come now to Our Cabaña
World friendship to increase,
And carry to your homeland
International peace.

OUR CHALET SONG

High up, high on the mountain
We founded Our Chalet
High up, high on the mountain
We founded Our Chalet
Its sloping roof and wide
Will shelter us without a care
And each and every Guide
Shall find a welcome there

High up, high on a mountain
We'll go to Our Chalet
High up, high on a mountain
We'll go to Our Chalet
Our simple life is free
Our hearts are light
Our songs are gay
We ever shall remember
The joys of Our Chalet

High up, high on the mountain
We founded Our Chalet
High up, high on the mountain
We'll go to Our Chalet
And this its dedication
Shall never fail nor be undone
Each race, each creed, each nation
Beneath its roof are one

PATHFINDER SONG

Pathfinders, Guiding along,
Sharing a promise and sharing a song,
Planning tomorrow, enjoying today.
Pathfinders, we're on our way.

Different roads to follow each day,
Learning through work and learning through play.
We'll do our best 'cause we're proud to say
Pathfinders, we've found our way.

There's a wide world waiting out there,
People to help, to show that we care.
We're learning now how best to prepare.
Pathfinders, we'll do our share.

Pathfinders, Guiding along,
Sharing a promise and sharing a song,
Planning tomorrow, enjoying today.
Pathfinders, we're here to stay.

PINK PAJAMAS

I wear my pink pajamas in the summer when it's hot
I wear my flannel nightie in the winter when it's not
And sometimes in the springtime and sometimes in the fall
I jump into my little bed with nothing on at all (whoo)

That's the time you oughta see me (whoo)
That's the time you oughta  see me (whoo)
That's the time you oughta see me
When I jump into my little bed with nothing on at all (whoo)

Nosy, nosy what's it to ya?
Nosy, nosy what's it to ya?
Nosy, nosy what's it to ya?
When I jump into my little bed with nothing on at all. (whoo)

I was only, only joking
I was only, only joking
I was only, only joking
When I jump into my little bed with nothing on at all. (whoo)

I wear my pink bikini in the summer when it’s hot
I wear my Speedo swimsuit in the winter when it’s not
And somtimes in the springtime and sometimes in the fall
I jump into my little pool with nothing on at all (whoo)

I wake up in the morning with my pillow on my head
My little tooshie-wooshie is a-hangin out of bed
And three times out of four I end up on the floor
So I don’t drink Coca-Cola before bed anymore.

PROUD TO BE IN GUIDING

I’m proud to be in Guiding, it’s opened lots of doors
To frienship and to knowledge, I’ve gained the just rewards
I can tie knots on a bedroll, I can smile at everything
Yes I’m proud to be in Guiding, forever I will sing

CHORUS
I am proud to be in Guiding
Proud to be in Guiding
Yes, I’m proud to be in Guiding
With you my friends

I’m proud to be in Guiding, my Promise I hold true
I do my best in most things, my duty to my God too
I honour my friends and country, And help others when I can
Yes, I’m proud to be in Guiding, it’s made me who I am

I’m proud to be in Guiding, the Motto says it all
I’m prepared for almost anything, be it big or be it small
I’ll cherish all my mem’ries, of friends and knowledge found
And I’ll be proud to be in Guiding, when that hundred years come ‘round!

RISE AND SHINE
Rise and shine and give God the glory glory.
Rise and shine and give God the glory glory.
Rise and shine and give God the glory glory.
Children of the Lord.

The Lord said to Noah, "There's gonna be a floody, floody."
The Lord said to Noah, "There's gonna be a floody, floody."
Get your children out of the muddy muddy."
Children of the Lord.

So Noah, he built him, he built him an arky arky.
So Noah, he built him, he built him an arky arky,
Built it out of hickory barky barky.
Children of the Lord.

The animals they came in, they came in by twosies twosies,
The animals they came in, they came in by twosies twosies,
Elephants and kangaroosy roosies.
Children of the Lord.

Creatures, they came in three by threesy, threesy
Creatures, they came in three by threesy, threesy
Bugs and bears and bumblebeesy, beesy
Children of the Lord

Creatures, they came in four by foursy, foursy
Creatures, they came in four by foursy, foursy
Noah called out "Close the doorsy, doorsy"
Children of the Lord

It rained and poured for forty daysies daysies
It rained and poured for forty daysies daysies
Almost drove those animals crazy crazy
Children of the Lord.

The sun came out and dried up the landy landy
The sun came out and dried up the landy landy
Everything was fine and dandy dandy
Children of the Lord.

Now Noah sent dove to take a peeky, peeky
Noah sent dove to take a peeky, peeky
He came back with a twig in her beaky, beaky
Children of the Lord.

Creatures, they left, they left in threesies threesies,
Creatures, they left, they left in threesies threesies,
Must have been those birds and beesies beesies,
Children of the Lord.

This is the end, the end of my story, story
This is the end, the end of my story, story
So rise and shine and give God the glory, glory
Children of the Lord!

SANGAM SONG

The symbol of oneness, Sangam is our pride
Where love and affection don't change like the tide.
Regardless of colour, religion or creed,
To spread benevolence, we're sowing the seed.
Guides of all nations, together we stand,
In good will and friendship, united our band.
To help the weak and aged, we make ourselves strong.
To gain inspiration, we always sing this song.
Sangam, O Sangam. Symbol of oneness.

SAY WHY

Say why, do we have to say goodbye
Say why, do we have to say goodbye
Say why, do we have to say goodbye
Say why, my friend, say why

Say when, will we ever meet again
Say when, will we ever meet again
Say when, will we ever meet again
Say when, my friend, say when

Say where, and I'll meet you right there
Say where, and I'll meet you right there
Say where, and I'll meet you right there
Say where, my friend, say where

Say why, do we have to say goodbye
Say when, will we ever meet again
Say where, and I'll meet you right there
Say why, say when, say where!

SISTER GUIDES
(tune: Edelweiss)

Sister Guides, sister Guides
We are thinking about you
'Round the world flags unfurled
Always ready to greet you
Promise and Law may we aim to keep
Standards higher and higher
In this way may we say
May God's blessing surround you.

SIX LITTLE DUCKS

Six little ducks that I once knew
Fat ones, skinny ones, fair ones too
But the one little duck with the feather on his back
He led the others with his quack, quack, quack
Quack, quack, quack
Quack, quack, quack
He led the others with his quack, quack, quack.

Down to the river they would go
Wibble wobble, wibble wobble to and fro
But the one little duck with the feather on his back
He led the others with his quack, quack, quack
Quack, quack, quack
Quack, quack, quack
He led the others with his quack, quack, quack.

Back from the river they would go
Wibble wobble, wibble wobble to and fro
But the one little duck with the feather on his back
He led the others with his quack, quack, quack
Quack, quack, quack
Quack, quack, quack
He led the others with his quack, quack, quack.

S’MORES SONG

A marshmallow, a marshmallow
A graham cracker and a chocolate bar.
A marshmallow, a marshmallow
A graham cracker and a chocolate bar.
S’mores, s’mores camping is more fun when you have s’mores
S’mores, s’mores camping is more fun when you have s’mores.

SUITORS

There are suitors at my door, O-lê-lê-o bahia
Six or eight or maybe more O-lê-lê-o bahia
And my father wants me wed, O-lê-lê-o bahia
Or at least that's what he said, O-lê-lê-o bahia
Chorus:
O-lê-o la, O-lê-lê-o bahia
O-lê-o la, O-lê-lê-o bahia
O-lê-o la, O-lê-lê-o bahia
O-lê-o la, O-lê-lê-o bahia
I told him that I will, O-lê-lê-o bahia
When the rivers flow uphill, O-lê-lê-o bahia
Or the fish begin to fly, O-lê-lê-o bahia
Or the day before I die, O-lê-lê-o bahia

STAY ON THE SUNNY SIDE

Leader: Knock knock!
All: Who's there?
Leader: Ether!

All: Who's there?
Leader: Boo!
All: Boo who?
Leader: Don't cry, the Ether Bunny will be back next year! YAY!

We’ve got a hundred years, We’ve got a hundred years

We’re strong in vision
Confident in our mission
Lending hands whenever there’s need
Cleaning green spaces with a smile on our faces
Taking action, performing good deeds

We’ve got a hundred years, We’ve got a hundred years
We’ve got a hundred years, We’ve got a hundred years
Here’s to another hundred years

We’ve been sisters for a century
Friendship like it ought to be
We’ve got a hundred years
Here’s to another hundred years

SWINGING ALONG

Part 1
Swinging along the open road,
Swinging along under a sky that’s clear
Swinging along the open road
All in the fall, in the fall of the year
Swinging along, swinging along
Swinging along the open road
All in the Fall of the Year

Part 2
Swinging along the open road,
Under a sky that’s clear
Swinging along the open road
In the Fall of the year
Swinging along, swinging along
Swinging along the open road
All in the fall of the year.

TEDDY BEAR’S PICNIC

If you go down in the woods today,
You're sure of a big surprise.
If you go down in the woods today,
You'd better go in disguise.
For every bear that ever there was,
Will gather there for certain because,
Today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic.

Picnic time for teddy bears,
The little teddy bears are having a lovely time today.
Watch them, catch them unaware,
And see them picnic on their holiday,
See them gaily gad about;
They love to sing and shout, they never have any cares,
At six o'clock their mummies and daddies
Will take them home to bed,
Because they're tired, little teddy bears.

THE HAPPY WANDERER

Chorus:
Val-der-ri, val-der-ra
Val-der-ri, val-der-ra ra ra ra ra ra
Val-der-ri, val-der-ra
(sing the last line of the verse)
I love to go a-wandering
Along the mountain track
And as I go, I love to sing
My knapsack on my back

I love to wander by the stream
That dances in the sun
So joyously it calls to me
Come join my happy song

I wave my hat to all I meet
And they wave back at me
And blackbirds call so loud and clear
From every greenwood tree

Oh, may I go a-wandering
Until the day I die
And may I always laugh and sing
Beneath God's clear blue sky

THERE WAS AN OLD LADY WHO SWALLOWED A FLY

There was an old lady who swallowed a fly
I don’t know why she swallowed a fly
Perhaps she’ll die

The was an old lady who swallowed a spider
That wiggled and jiggled and tickled inside her
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly
I don’t know why she swallowed a fly
Perhaps she’ll die

The was an old lady who swallowed a bird
How absurd! To swallow a bird.
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider
That wiggled and jiggled and tickled inside her
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly
I don’t know why she swallowed a fly
Perhaps she’ll die

Cat...imagine that!  She swallowed a cat.
Dog...what a hog!  She swallowed a dog.
Goat...She opened her throat and in walked a goat
Cow...I don’t know how she swallowed that cow
There was an old lady who swallowed a horse.  She died of course!

THERE’S A HOLE IN MY BUCKET

Henry: There's a hole in my bucket dear Liza, dear Liza
There's a hole in my bucket dear Liza, a hole.

Liza: Well, fix it dear Henry, dear Henry, dear Henry,
Well, fix it dear Henry, dear Henry, fix it.

Henry: With what shall I fix it ...
Liza: With a straw dear Henry ...
Henry: The straw is too long ...
Liza: Well, cut it dear Henry ...
Henry: With what shall I cut it ...
Liza: With an axe dear Henry ...
Henry: The axe is too dull dear Liza ...
Liza: Well, sharpen it dear Henry ...
Henry: With what shall I sharpen it ...
Liza: With a stone dear Henry ...
Henry: The stone is too dry dear Liza ...
Liza: Well, wet it dear Henry ...
Henry: With what shall I wet it ...
Liza: With water dear Henry ...
Henry: In what shall I fetch it ...
Liza: In a bucket dear Henry ...
Henry: There's a hole in my bucket, dear Liza ...

THEY ALL CALL IT CANADA

Side by side and step by step
Our fathers were marching along
They were building a road to the future
With a spade and a smile and a song.

Out of the wildness and out of the sand
Grew the land that we live in today.
Though the job to be done has barely begun,
There is one thing I'm proud to say:

My country is my cathedral
The northern sky its dome
They all call it Canada
But I call it home

The mountains, the lakes and valleys
Are friends that I have known
They all call it Canada
But I call it home

From the Atlantic to the Pacific
From the pole to the U.S.A.
We're on united brotherhood
And united we will stay

The people across the border
And far across the foam
They all call it Canada
But I call it home

THEY SAY THAT IN THE ARMY

They say that in the Army the cookies are divine
But one rolled off the table and killed a friend of mine

CHORUS:
Oh, I don’t want no more of army life
Gee mom, I wanna go
Back to Ontario
Gee mom, I wanna go home!

They say that in the Army the drink is mighty fine
You ask for Coca-Cola, they give you turpentine

They say that in the Army the tents are waterproof
You wake up in the morning, you’re floating on the roof

They say that in the Army the pay is mighty fine
They give you 90 dollars and take back eighty-nine

They say that in the Army the music is divine
You ask for Elvis Presley they give you Frankenstein

THIS LITTLE BROWNIE LIGHT OF MINE

This little Brownie light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine
This little Brownie light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine
This little Brownie light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine
Let it shine, all the time, let it shine

Don't you (poof) my little light out, I'm gonna let it shine
Don't you (poof) my little light out, I'm gonna let it shine
Don't you (poof) my little light out, I'm gonna let it shine
Let it shine, all the time, let it shine

Hide it under a bush? Oh no! I'm gonna let it shine
Hide it under a bush? Oh no! I'm gonna let it shine
Hide it under a bush? Oh no! I'm gonna let it shine
Let it shine, all the time, let it shine

Take my little light around the world, I'm gonna let it shine
Take my little light around the world, I'm gonna let it shine
Take my little light around the world, I'm gonna let it shine
Let it shine, all the time, let it shine

Tried to get to heaven on the end of a thread
But the thread end was broken, down they fell
Instead of goin’ to heaven they all went to...

Two little devils
One little devil
They all went to bed!

And said, “Good Landlord, let us in.”

Oh landlord, have you good red wine?  Yo ho.  Yo ho.
Oh landlord, have you good red wine?  Yo ho.  Yo ho.

Enough to fill this cask of mine?

Oh yes sir, I have good red wine
Enough to fill this cask of thine.

Enough to fill the after hold.

Oh yes sir, she will marry thee.  Yo ho.  Yo ho.
Oh yes sir, she will marry thee.  Yo ho.  Yo ho.
Oh yes sir, she will marry thee
And sail with thee across the sea.

TITANIC

Oh, they built the ship Titanic, to sail the ocean blue
And they thought they had a ship that the water wouldn't go through
But the good Lord raised His hand, said the ship would never land
It was sad when the great ship went down
Chorus:
Oh, it was sad, so sad
It was sad when the great ship went down
To the bottom of the sea

(Husbands and wives, little children lost their lives)
It was sad when the great ship went down.

Oh, they were not far from shore, when they heard a mighty roar
And the rich refused to associate with the poor
So they put them down below, where they'd be the first to go
It was sad when the great ship went down.

TWINKLE TWINKLE LITTLE SPARK

Twinkle twinkle little Spark,
Time to go, it's getting dark
Time to go back home to bed
Time to rest your weary head
Twinkle twinkle little Spark,
Time to go, it's getting dark!

TOM THE TOAD

Oh, Tom the toad, Oh, Tom the toad,
Why are you lying on the road?
Oh, Tom the toad, Oh, Tom the toad,
Why are you lying on the road?
You did not see the car ahead;
Now you're all marked with tire tread.
Oh, Tom the toad, Oh, Tom the toad,
Why are you lying on the road?

Oh Sam the Ham, oh Sam the Ham,
Why are you lying in the pan?
Oh Sam the Ham, oh Sam the Ham,
Why are you lying in the pan?
Did you not see the oven door
And now you're cooked forevermore!
Oh Sam the Ham, oh Sam the Ham,
Why are you lying in the pan?

Oh Jake the Snake, oh Jake the Snake
You didn't see that garden rake.
Oh Jake the Snake, oh Jake the Snake
You didn't see that garden rake.
You used to be so long and thin,
And now you are red and grim.
Oh Jake the Snake, oh Jake the Snake,
You did not see that garden rake.

Oh Tom the Snake, oh Tom the Snake,
Why did you jump into the lake?
Oh Tom the Snake, oh Tom the Snake,
Why did you jump into the lake?
You did not know you could not swim,
And now you are what's left of him,
Oh Tom the Snake, oh Tom the Snake,
Why did you jump into the lake?

Oh Sue the skunk, oh Sue the skunk,
Why did you make my tires go klunk?
Oh Sue the skunk, oh Sue the skunk,
Why did you make my tires go klunk?
You did not look from East to West
Now on the road there's such a mess.
Oh Sue the skunk, oh Sue the skunk,
Why did you make my tires go klunk?

Oh Sam the snake, oh Sam the snake,
Why do you lie out there and bake?
Oh Sam the snake, oh Sam the snake,
Why do you lie out there and bake?
You did not see that truck go by.
Now you look like a butterfly.
Oh Sam the snake, oh Sam the snake,

THE WINDOW

The window, the window
The second-story window
If you don’t know a nursery rhyme
We’ll throw you out the window!

Mary had a little lamb, it’s fleece was white as snow
And everywhere that Mary went -
She threw it out the window

Little Jack Horner sat in his corner, eating his pudding pie
He stuck in his thumb and pulled out a plumb -
And threw it out the window

Little Miss Muffet sat on a tuffet eating her curds and whey
Along came a spider and sat down beside her -
And she threw it out the window

Georgie porgie pudding and pie, kissed the girls and made them cry
When the boys came out to play -
He threw them out the window

Little boy blue, come blow your horn, the sheep’s in the meadow, the cow’s in the corn
Where is the boy who looks after the sheep?
We threw him out the window

Peter, Peter pumpkin eater, had a wife and couldn’t keep her
Put her in a pumpkin shell and -
Threw her out the window

Jack be nimble, Jack be quick
Jack jump over the candle stick -
Or we’ll throw you out the window!

WHENE’RE YOU MAKE A PROMISE

Whene’re you make a promise,
Consider well its importance.
And when made,
Engrave it upon your heart.

WHERE HAVE ALL THE FLOWERS GONE

Chorus:
When will they ever learn
When will they ever learn

Where have all the flowers gone
Long time passing
Where have all the flowers gone
Long time ago
Where have all the flowers gone
Young girls picked them everyone

Where have all the young girls gone
Long time passing
Where have all the young girls gone
Long time ago
Where have all the young girls gone
Gone to young men everyone

Where have all the young men gone
Long time passing
Where have all the young men gone
Long time ago
Where have all the young men gone
Gone to soldiers everyone

Where have all the soldiers gone
Long time passing
Where have all the soldiers gone
Long time ago
Where have all the soldiers gone
Gone to graveyards everyone

Where have all the graveyards gone
Long time passing
Where have all the graveyards gone
Long time ago
Where have all the graveyards gone
Gone to flowers everyone

WITCHCRAFT

If there was witchcraft I’d make two wishes
A winding road that beckons me to roam
And then I’d wish for a blazing campfire
To welcome me when I’m returning home
But in this real world there is no witchcraft
And golden wishes do not grow on trees
And so our daydreams must be
To welcome back these golden memories
Memories of friendship constant and true
Memories I’ll cherish, Girl Guide camp with you

WORLD CENTER SONG #1

Just to visit a world center is a thrill
Though the distance may deter us, go we will
We can meet old friends and new
Share our faiths and customs too
Where, though far from home we may be happy still.

Our Chalet is in the mountains it is Swiss
It is one place you should never give a miss
Climb a mountain, ski back down
You will never wear a frown
When you gather in a lovely home like this.

Come to London on the way to anywhere
Pax Lodge is here for everyone to share
See the great historic sites
Or the theatres at night
Knowing you've a home to greet you that will care

Our Cabana stands in Mexico - Ole!
And whoever goes to visit wants to stay
There's a welcome there for all
Secret friends on you may call
So that this is home for you in every way

There's an Indian experience come along
"Come together" here in Sangam with a song
Light a candle for our friends
And at last when daylight ends
We're together in our home where we belong.

WORLD CENTER SONG #2

In England the movement began,
Peace is here where Pax Lodge stands.
India is Sangam's home,
A place to stay whenever you roam.
At Our Cabana in Mexico,
You'll be welcomed when you go.

Our Chalet in Switzerland,
Finds Guides there always lend a hand.
When you travel by plane or car,
A Girl Guide home is never far.
The four World Centres open wide,
A home for each and every Guide.

YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine,
You make me happy when skies are gray.
You'll never know dear, how much I love you;
Please don't take my sunshine away.
The other night dear, when I was sleeping,
I dreamt I held you in my arms.
When I awoke dear, I was mistaken;
So I hung my head and I cried.

I'll always love you and make you happy,
If you will only say the same,
But if you leave me to love another,
You'll regret it all some day.

You told me once, dear, you really loved me,
And no one else could come between.
But now you've left me and love another,
You have shattered all my dreams.

CLOSING SONGS AND VESPERS

BRETON FISHERMAN’S PRAYER

Protect me oh Lord for my boat is so small
Protect me oh Lord for my boat is so small
My boat is so small and your sea is so wide
Protect me oh Lord
Note: I find this vesper to be particularly effective when accompanied by sign language:
  • Protect: cross arms over chest
  • Me: point to yourself
  • Oh: make an "o" with one hand
  • Lord: Right hand making an "L", starting from about shoulder height and moving up and out from body
  • Boat: hands pressed together as if in prayer but at a 90 deg. angle from body, move them away from body in a wavy motion
  • Small: cup hands
  • Sea: both hands as fists with thumbs tucked on outside of fist (the letter "S"); in a rowing motion
  • Wide: hold up first three fingers of each hand, fingers spread apart (like a "W"); hands start next to each other in front of chest and move outward to each side

BROWNIE CLOSING

Our Lord our God
Thy children call
Grant us Thy peace
And bless us all
Goodnight....

DAYLIGHT TAPS

Thanks and praise, for our days
‘Neath the sun, ‘neath the stars, ‘neath the sky.
As we go, this we know
God is Nigh

EVENSONG

When the shadows softly gather
As we close our eyes in sleep
We would thank thee holy Father
For thy keep

Keep our loved ones free from sorrow
Be thou ever close beside
Help us play the game tomorrow
As thy Guides

IRA CONGO

Ira congo,
Ira congo by ay,
Ira congo by ay congo,
By ay, congo, by ay.

NOW RUN ALONG HOME

Now run along home and jump into bed
Say your prayers don’t cover your head
The very last thing I say unto you
“You dream of me, and I’ll dream of you”

SOFTLY FALLS

Softly falls the light of day
As our campfire fades away
Silently each Guide should ask
Have I done my daily task?
Have I kept my honour bright?
Can I guiltless sleep tonight?
Have I done and have I dared
Everything to be prepared?

SO LONG, FAREWELL

There's a sad sort of clanging
From the clock in the hall
And the bells in the steeple too,
And up in the nurs'ry an absurd little bird
Is popping out to say "coocoo".

Regretfully they tell us,
But firmly they compel us
To say goodbye to you.

So long, farewell, Auf wiedersehen, good night,
I hate to go and leave this pretty sight.

So long, farewell, Auf wiedersehen, adieu,
Adieu, adieu, to yieu and yieu and yieu.

So long, farewell, Au'voir, auf wiedersehen,
I'd like to stay and taste my first champagne

So long, farewell, Auf wiedersehen, goodbye,
I leave and heave a sigh and say goodbye,
Good bye

I'm glad to go,
I cannot tell a lie.
I flit, I float,
I fleetly flee, I fly.

The sun has gone to bed and so must I
So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, goodbye,
Goodbye,
Goodbye,
Goodbye!

TAPS

Day is done, gone the sun
From the lake, from the hills, from the sky
All is well, safely rest
God is Nigh

WE WHO HAVE COME HERE

We who have come here, come here together
And if we had all come, we would do wonders.
